Herbert Marcuse s work is characterized by a concern with the possibilities of radical transformation, social and individual. His critical theory of radical transformation is decomposable into two parts: 1. definition and elaboration of the immanent logic of technocapitalist material reality (in a stage of totalitarian coordination of bio-socio-political-economic-ethical-epistemologicalpsycholibidinal processes), 2. identification of inherent contradictions and localization of potential revolutionary foci. This transformation is radical because it is both a social and an individual process. The thesis defended in this research, based on Marcuse s philosophy, is that technological rationality (technology as a mode of domination) and revolutionary movements (the radical refusal of domination) are, as such, antagonistic and irreconcilable. The basic argument of the thesis demonstrates such conflict from the understanding of technological rationality as the hegemonic totalitarian logic of quantification, planning and standardization of the existing whole and of revolutionary movements as the expression and incorporation of the differences and qualities irreducible to the homogenizing calculus and, therefore, expurgated from the reality of the technocapitalism. That is, if technological rationality is total planning intensifying, improving and expanding for the purposes of self-perpetuation (conservation and potentiation of the established operating structure of late predatory capitalism), it is necessarily the determined erasure of all real (non-assimilated) difference. Thus, technology (of domination) is itself the progressive extermination of the possibility of existence of revolutionary movements; conversely, revolutionary movements, as a struggle for radical transformation, are the demand for the end of technological rationality.
