Empujando los límites the title of this research, refers to the way Paraguayan architects Solano Benítez and Gloria Cabral seek to expand the limitations imposed by their economic, geographic, and social context. In this process, their knowledge of material properties and hands-on experience on the construction site allows for the creation of new ways of building and the invention of new construction materials. It also refers to the redefinition of boundaries between categories. In this study, I also considered, as part of my analysis, the work of Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, who aim to produce buildings capable of integrating binary oppositions and dissolving their hierarchies: such as between architecture and landscape, interior and exterior, public and private, structure and enclosure, and between different uses and qualities of spaces or structural elements. Based on the study of contemporary feminist theory - which understands that the theme of nature cannot be dissociated from the idea of gender and proposes that matter and nature are not submissive, while also not possessing an immutable essence - comes the understanding that architecture responds to these contemporary issues by engaging with materiality, allowing nature, through the expression of the quality of materials, the forces of gravity, or the passage of time, to reveal itself in the built works; and by incessantly striving for the dissolution of the hierarchies characteristic of the discipline - the greatest of which is that between nature and culture.
