This doctoral thesis aims to conduct a psychoanalytic study on perinatal grief for women. One of our assumptions is that the initiation of the grief work occurs at different times for mothers, and it is not always possible. We highlight some specificities that make perinatal death so singular, such as the difficulty in understanding the surrounding environment; the experience of death occurring in the female body; uncertainty about the representation of the baby, which includes both object and narcissistic facets; and the occurrence of death, which interrupts the preparation process for motherhood. Our main objective is to describe perinatal grief in more detail to better support families in their grieving process. This work is developed in three articles that address, respectively, issues related to the context surrounding perinatal death, reflections on the different outcomes after the death of the fetus/baby, and a study on psychoanalytic group support for grieving mothers. We point out the potential of psychoanalysis, whether individually or in groups, to help provide a more supportive environment for these women after their loss. We present a psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy group model through qualitative research and conclude that the group can be an effective device in supporting patients experiencing perinatal losses.
