The study investigates how design can contribute to the formulation of national reverse logistics guidelines in the textile and apparel industry, considering its complexity and multiple actors. The main objective is to develop design guidelines that incorporate the concepts of design for sustainability. The theoretical framework addresses the circular economy, reverse logistics, solid waste management, and sustainable design. The research used Flick s (2009) methodology, applying coding, categorization, and category networks to legislative documents on textile reverse logistics, in addition to interviews with experts. The analysis led to the formulation of guidelines presented in chapter 7 of the study. The literature review highlights essential concepts such as the circular economy, Brazilian legislation on solid waste, the National Solid Waste Policy (2010), and the evolution of sustainable design according to Ceschin and Gaziulusoy (2016). The book Design as an attitude by Alice Rawsthorn (2024) is also discussed. The results indicate the feasibility of creating regulations for reverse textile logistics through sectoral agreements, terms of commitment or decrees. The proposal is to form working groups that include industry, experts, legislators and civil society. The study reinforces the need for awareness-raising to drive effective actions and points out how other countries are already advancing in regulation. Finally, it highlights the urgency of an in-depth debate on the topic to promote sustainable technologies and solutions.
