The Knowledge of God from the emergence of the Church to the Second Vatican Council proposes a reflection on the issues that involve the knowledge of God and which is of paramount importance for theology, considering that God revealed himself, becoming knowable to men. Nowhere in Scripture does it declare that God is unknown or unknowable. However, it presupposes that God can be known and that He makes Himself known. Throughout the development of theological thought, great divergences have been noticed among Christian thinkers regarding how God is known. Knowledge of God is more than intellectual knowledge, it is more than understanding things through reason, through methodical analysis, through seeking cause and effect relationships. In Scripture, knowledge means communion, intimate familiarity with someone. Unity between brothers is a way of expressing the knowledge of God. As participants in the body of Christ and the family of God, it is essential that we have communion with each other, because this attitude attests to our level of communion with God. One of the virtues of communion is to grow in knowledge and holiness. This level of knowledge is the work of the Holy Spirit who convinces and awakens men to seek the liberating truth. This knowledge produces spiritual strength in men, to resist modern atheism that despises religious knowledge, the more knowledge of God, the more spiritual energy, the more practice of faith. This knowledge is demonstrable through a life of devotion, zeal and love for God and, in practice, care for others.
