The main objectives of this work are to examine the constructing process of identity in Sri Lanka as a result of exclusion practices towards the tamil and also to verify how the international influences operated in the conflict reproducing the opposition logic, which stimulates the violence and the instability on the country. The hypothesis to be analysed is that during the constructing process of Sri Lankas identity, it was established a hierarchy, that allowed the identification of a sovereign interpretative centre, in the case, the sinhalese, understood as a greater and unquestioned reality. In this hierarchy, the Other, in the case, the tamil, is seen as a threat to the first identity, which is well defined and preconcepted. The international influences in the conflict reproduced the logic of exclusion in a context which they priviledged the position taken by one of the fighting sides, they neglected the violence perpetrated by Sri Lankas authorities against the tamil and also did little or nothing to prevent the tamil tigres to obtain equipments e to cooperate with terrorist organizations all around the world.
