The thesis aims to understand to what extent the beliefs of the inevitability of accidents at work and of the worker s own responsibility (blaming) are present among informal workers in a municipal market in Guanambi - BA. To this end, it presents definitions of accidents at work and argues in favor of the idea of accidents as a social relationship, that is, as a bad encounter, a sad affliction, causing sadness in the worker s body, based on Spinoza s theory of affections. It goes on to describe all the bad accident encounters that occurred during the data collection of the research carried out between 2018 and 2020, divided into five form applications. The next step is an analysis of the market workers perception of risk, followed by an analysis of the perceived avoidability of the accident. From this empirical material, divided into three chapters, it was possible to verify the hypothesis of the work, which is that the act of getting injured is still seen as if it were an intimate part of the job, resulting in beliefs about the inevitability of a bad accident and blaming the worker themselves. In view of these findings, there is an urgent need to create a permanent legal and health education center, to function as a democratic, pedagogical and awareness-forming space for the working class of informal market traders with regard to public labor and health rights; as well as the urgent need to set up a specific workers health unit to serve market workers and/or extend the opening hours of the municipality s basic health units.
