This research aims to increase the visibility of the work of Maria Beatriz Nascimento, a black historian and intellectual who rewrote the history of Brazil from the perspective of the quilombos. The dissertation is divided into three chapters, which address different aspects of Beatriz s intellectual trajectory, from her academic formation to her political and cultural action. The first chapter examines the historical and social context in which Beatriz was inserted and acted,as well as her exchanges and dialogues with other intellectuals of her generation.The second chapter analyzes the research process of Beatriz on the quilombos, the concepts and philosophical references that she mobilized, and the contributions that she made to the quilombola thought. The third chapter reflects on the production of knowledge of Beatriz with a focus on the experience of black women, discussing how she built her subversive identity and used her writing as a tool for social transformation. The research is based on documentary and manuscript sources of Beatriz, as well as on authors who address topics related to her work.
