The occurrence of fires in urban areas and their consequences has been highlighting the vulnerability of buildings and the large potential losses (human and material) caused by this type of accident. Because of this, fire safety has been the subject of studies among several groups, involving occupational safety professionals, firefighters, among others. Federal and state laws and regulations have been created and updated in recent years to prevent and combat fire. Given this scenario, the purpose of this study is to analyze the fire safety system in the building where the company XYZ is located. For this, the regulations of the Rio de Janeiro Fire and Panic Safety Code (COSCIP/RJ) were used. Data on extinguishers, sprinklers, fire hydrants, emergency lighting system, emergency detection system, emergency signaling system and emergency exits were collected in order to be compared with the technical standards present in COSCIP/RJ. In addition, the latest emergency drills were analyzed for safety system analysis closer to the actual fire situation. The results of the analysis led to the conclusion that the building is, for the most part, in accordance with the regulations, with no significant flaws in the material factors of prevention and combat. However, there are major flaws in the emergency action plan involving human factors and communication failures. Therefore, there is a need for the company to focus on creating safety awareness in employees.
