BODE PLOT FOR FIRST AND SECOND ORDER SYSTEMS

RC CIRCUIT

Consider the RC circuit of the figure below:


This circuit may be used as a first order filter. If the output is the voltage in the capacitor, then the circuit is a low-pass (LP) filter. In case the output is the voltage in the resistor, the filter is high-pass (HP).

When the output is in the capacitor (LP) the transfer function is:

H(s)_{PB} = \frac{\frac{1}{RC}}{s + \frac{1}{RC}}

a) Analyze the Bode Plot of this low-pass filter for different values of R and/or C.

b) Analyze the Bode Plot of this highpass filter for different values of R and/or C.

A very interesting experiment is to compute both diagrams (LP and HP) for the same values of the parameters and compare results.
